Weekly Recap: Fresh Off 3-0 Week, Hornets Venom GT Heads Back to Indy
June 29, 2022
By Sam Perley
Hornets Venom GT is coming off its best week of the season and now heads to Indianapolis looking to keep the momentum rolling into bracket play of The Coinbase 2KL SWITCH OPEN. Following the recent trade of Nick to Hawks Talon GC, Glennratty, Tate and DJ are locked in as Charlotte’s starters and the team is now just one series win away from reaching the money round for the second time this year in 3v3 competition.
A Look Back:
SWITCH OPEN Group Play (June 14-24): Hornets Venom GT knocked off the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai, 3-1, in their SWITCH Opener on June 14, then evened out at 1-1 after a four-game series loss to SLAM OPEN Champions Wizards DG the following night. A back-and-forth battle with Rim Runners capped off the team’s first week of play, with the amateur adversaries notching a tight 3-2 victory.
Charlotte got redemption on June 21 though, sweeping Rim Runners to move back to .500. Down 1-2 and trailing 20-18 to Gen.G in Game 4 the next night, Glennratty hit the shot of the tournament so far for Hornets Venom GT, canning a straight-away, go-ahead 3-pointer and then flushing the winning dunk on the next possession. The squad went on to beat the Tigers and 24 hours later, pulled a four-game stunner over powerhouse Wizards DG to win the group.

Coming Up Next (ET):
Thursday, June 30 vs. Pistons GT (8 PM): Like Hornets Venom GT, Pistons GT also went 4-2 in SWITCH OPEN group play, notching multiple wins over amateur crew Team Clutch and splitting its head-to-head matchups with Kings Guard Gaming and DUX Infinitos. Detroit made bracket play in the SLAM OPEN as well, although got swept in the Round of 16 by DUX. One interesting note – this will be the first-ever 2KL meeting in any competition between Hornets Venom GT and Pistons GT.
Radiant, Charger and Ramo have been Pistons GT’s primary trio in 3v3 play and that trend should continue on Thursday evening. The center Ramo was a finalist for NBA 2K League Player of the Week last week after averaging 6.2 points on 97.6% shooting (40-of-41) and 4.4 rebounds in 13 total contests.
