One Final Look at Hornets Venom GT’s 2020 NBA 2K League Numbers

Hornets Venom GT officially wrapped up its first-ever NBA 2K League season on Friday, Aug. 21 with a 9-7 regular season mark, an unforgettable playoff series sweep over Nets GC and a top-8 finish. The 2020 season was littered with memorable moments and performances from all six of the team’s players, which included four rookies and a first-time 2K League Head Coach in Lawrence “BiggWest” West.
Player Breakdowns (all statistics are from regular season)
C Xavier “Type” Vescovi – 13.6 PPG | 12.3 RPG | 6.2 APG | 2.7 SPG | 3.0 BPG | 63.1 FG%
An experienced third-year veteran, Type maintained his reputation as one of the top defenders in the 2K League, finishing the campaign ranked first in blocks, sixth in steals and 11th in rebounds per individual contest.
The big man recorded three regular season triple-doubles, led the team in assists and memorably banked in a second-chance layup with 0.4 seconds left to help seal a 73-71 Game 2 win over Nets GC in the opening round of the NBA 2K League Playoffs on Aug. 20.
G Justin “Snubby” Stemerman – 24.1 PPG | 4.8 APG | 1.8 SPG | 56.0 FG% | 39.7 3P%
The team’s starting point guard since Opening Night, Snubby led the team in scoring and ranked 179h in the NBA 2K League overall.
He scored a franchise-record 44 points on July 28 against Hawks Talon GC and set the team-high mark for three-pointers in a single game with seven versus Heat Check Gaming on Aug. 6.
G Alex “Expose” Whelan – 14.7 PPG | 2.7 APG | 1.2 SPG | 55.6 FG% | 52.4 3P%
The sixth overall selection in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft slotted into the shooting guard spot for the entirety of his debut season, leading the team in total threes (65), while sharing backcourt ball-handling duties with Snubby.
Expose drained a buzzer-beating three to beat Raptors Uprising GC back on May 14 and went a perfect 8-of-8 from distance in the second half of a Game 3 win over Bucks Gaming on July 23 to advance to THE TURN Quarterfinals (franchise record for any game).
F Gio “Trap” Elizondo – 5.2 PPG | 1.3 RPG | 2.2 APG | 2.7 SPG | 61.8 FG% | 55.0 3P%
Trap solidified himself as a key 3-and-D weapon for Hornets Venom throughout his rookie NBA 2K League, regularly guarding the opponent’s leading scorer and topping the team in percentage from distance.
The lock finished with a season-high 12 points in a series-sealing Game 2 win over the Gen.G Tigers on July 31st and ranked eighth in the 2K League in steals per outing.
F/C Zaeya “Zae” Ishak – 13.0 PPG | 7.2 RPG | 2.7 APG | 1.6 SPG | 1.2 BPG | 52.7 FG% | 46.5 3P%
Playing primarily power forward this season, Zae emerged as one of the best players in the league at his position, racking up NBA 2K League All-Rookie honors in the process.
He scored a career-high 27 points from the four spot against Knicks Gaming on May 28, grabbed a team-record 21 rebounds against Pacers Gaming on June 24 and sank a game-sealing three with 37 seconds in Game 1 of the team’s playoff series against Nets GC.
F/C Alontae “Gliz” Proctor | 6.8 PPG | 6.2 RPG | 1.8 APG | 1.1 SPG | 52.0 FG% | 50.0 FG%
Brought in as the team’s sixth man after suiting up for Jazz Gaming last year, Gliz appeared in 10 regular season contests this campaign for his new squad.
The frontcourter pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds in his first appearance on June 23 against his former team and scored a season-high 16 points against Magic Gaming on June 29.
