Hornets Venom GT Set to Compete in “THE TURN”

Team To Play First Matchup Of Single-Elimination Tournament Thursday Starting At 8 p.m.

July 22, 2020 Hornets Venom GT, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, will compete this week in THE TURN, powered by AT&T. The four-day, single-elimination tournament, which features all 23 NBA 2K League teams competing remotely from their local markets, begins tonight.

Hornets Venom GT enters THE TURN with a regular-season record of 7-4 and will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament based on regular-season winning percentages. The team will receive a bye in the first round before taking on the winner of tonight’s matchup between No. 10 seed Bucks Gaming and No. 23 seed Celtics Crossover Gaming in a best-of-three series on Thursday beginning at 8 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. The semifinals will take place Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by the final at 4 p.m.

All matchups are best-of-three series and will air live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch channel, in addition to select matches airing live on ESPN’s digital platforms and the NBA 2K League’s YouTube channel. ESPN2 will air matches live on Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. ET and Saturday, July 25 at 3 p.m. ET.

The top eight teams will share a prize pool of $260,000. The tournament champion will earn $117,000, the runner-up will receive $52,000, the third- and fourth-place finishers will each get $22,100 and the fifth- through eighth-place teams will receive $11,700 each.

THE TURN will also feature an added challenge for the second year in a row, with the implementation of an “Archetype Ban.”  An archetype is a preset combination of attributes and skills for each position from which players can choose. Prior to the first game of each matchup during the tournament, each team will determine two archetypes that cannot be used by either team. For the second game, each team will select an additional archetype to be disabled. If a series extends to a third game, there will be no additional archetype bans.
