Charlotte Rides Defense to #2 Seed in NBA 2KL Playoffs
For the second time in as many years of existence, Hornets Venom GT is back in the NBA 2K League Playoffs and already in the Quarterfinals after securing a first-round bye as the Eastern Conference’s #2 seed. Coincidentally, Charlotte swept tonight’s opponent Nets GC, 2-0, last August to advance to the 2020 NBA 2KL Quarterfinals before being eliminated 0-2 by then-top-seeded Raptors Uprising GC.

Throughout its 19-9 regular season 2021 campaign, Hornets Venom GT solidified itself as one of the league’s top defensive units and any postseason advancement will likely be because of play on that end. The squad finished first in opposing three-pointers and three-point percentage allowed, third in opposing points and field goals and fifth in opposing field-goal percentage this year.
Nets GC Prevails For First-Ever Playoff Series Victory
Brooklyn emerged from a back-and-forth battle with 76ers GC on Thursday night to win its opening round series, 2-1, although did surrender over 100 points in its Game 2 loss. Nets GC’s explosive offense has never been questioned this season – the team finished second in total points scored (2,274 in 28 games), third in three-pointers (358), three-point percentage (53.7%) and field-goal percentage (62.9%) and also second in assists (589). Defensively though, the squad has struggled to get consistent stops throughout 2021 and generally looks to win via run-and-gun shootouts more than anything else.
Opposing Player to Watch: Josh “Choc” Humphries
The 2KL’s second-leading scorer this season and likely MVP candidate was in full form against Philadelphia, putting up averages of 25.3 points and 15.6 assists over Thursday night’s outings. Choc also committed just four total turnovers in the process after leading the league this year in giveaways per game (4.3) in what was likely one of his best string of performances considering the stakes since joining the 2KL in 2020. Of note, the talented point guard averaged 28.5 points on 44% shooting, 12.5 assists and 4.0 turnovers in the team’s two losses to Hornets Venom GT in THE TURN last month.
.@choc DOMINATED, getting buckets and throwing dimes as he led @NetsGamingCrew to the Quarterfinals 💪
