Hornets Venom GT Looks to Take Advantage of Schedule Following First 0-2 Showing
Counting THE TURN Tournament, Charlotte was riding a nine-game winning streak heading into last Saturday night’s showdown with 76ers GC. The momentum unfortunately came to a screeching halt following a Philadelphia buzzer beater in Game 1 and then a 17-point loss in Game 2.
This upcoming weekend’s contests provide a great bounce-back opportunity for Hornets Venom GT after getting swept for the first time in 2021 as Hawks Talon GC and Lakers Gaming are a combined 8-32 in regular season play. While anything can happen, Charlotte needs to make the most of these two favorable matchups after dropping to fourth in the 2KL’s Eastern Conference last week.
Hawks Talon GC in Standings Freefall Following 5-3 Start
Atlanta opened its regular season slate with three straight losses – two of which came at the hands of Hornets Venom GT – then won five in a row before dropping 12 consecutive outings (also swept in THE TURN). Since losing 71-67 to Heat Check Gaming on June 19, Hawks Talon’s ensuing seven defeats have all been by at least 15 points apiece. Now sitting 11th out of 12 teams in the Eastern Conference, Atlanta will certainly be hungry for a victory, but there’s no sign things are turning around anytime soon.
Opposing Player to Watch: Caesar “Ceez” Martinez
An early-season contender for Rookie of the Year, point guard Ceez ranks ninth in 2KL scoring going into Week 8 at 26.5 points per game on 50.7% shooting and has connected on a relatively pedestrian 88-of-201 three-point attempts (43.8%). Ceez notched a 35-point showing in the regular season opener against Charlotte back in May although as of late, is really struggling in the turnover department (39 over his last eight outings; 4.9 per game).
