Hornets Venom GT Acquires Pair of Players and 2021 First-Round Draft Pick From Mavs Gaming

November 16, 2020Hornets Venom GT, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today acquired center Peter “PeteBeBallin” Malin, guard Justin “Sherm” Sherman and a first-round pick (No. 15 overall) in the 2021 NBA 2K League Draft from Mavs Gaming in exchange for forward Zaeya “Zae” Ishak, center Gerald “Sick One” Knapp and a 2021 second-round draft pick.

PeteBeBallin averaged 12.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.8 steals in 38 regular-season games in 2020, ranking fifth in the league in field goal percentage (71.4%), sixth in blocks per game and 14th in rebounds per game.  A member of the 2019 NBA 2K League All-Rookie Team, he played two seasons for Mavs Gaming after being selected by the team with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft.

Sherm averaged 22.6 points, 5.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 2020, while shooting 58.2% from the field and 47.3% from beyond the three-point line.  He also played two seasons for Mavs Gaming, which selected him with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft.

A member of the 2020 NBA 2K League All-Rookie Team, Zae was selected by Hornets Venom GT with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft.  As a rookie, he averaged 13.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in 38 regular-season games, while shooting 52.7% from the field and 48.3% from the three-point line.

Sick One was acquired by Hornets Venom GT two days ago from Raptors Uprising GC in exchange for center Xavier “Type” Vescovi.  Sick One earned All-NBA 2K League First Team honors in 2020 after averaging 14.4 points, 12.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.8 steals in 36 regular-season games, while helping lead Raptors Uprising GC to an undefeated 16-0 record in the regular season, as well as the championships of both THE TIPOFF and THE TURN.  He ranked seventh in the league in both rebounds per game and blocks per game, and 11th in field goal percentage (69.7%).

PeteBeBallin and Sherm join retained players Justin “Snubby” Stemerman and Alex “Expose” Whelan on Hornets Venom GT’s roster.

Hornets Venom GT went 9-7 in its inaugural NBA 2K League season in 2020 and made the quarterfinals of the NBA 2K League Playoffs delivered by DoorDash.
